disc 29 | 2021

The second edition of 2021 also took place in April, being part of the same spring batch published by Clean Feed. This time, the disc was the result of two studio sessions that the Space Quartet held at Scratchbuilt: one in October 2019, "sandwiched" between concerts in Lisbon, Viseu, Coimbra, Antwerp, and Copenhagen — during which we were in pretty good form, fueled by the road — and the other just a few days before the pandemic lockdown erupted in March 2020, bringing everything and everyone to a halt for an indeterminate period, at that time (we would only play together again, at CCB, in May 2021).
As usual, the quartet included Rafael Toral on acoustic and electronic feedback, Hugo Antunes on double bass, Nuno Torres on alto saxophone and electronics, and myself on drums and percussion. I recorded the sessions (using Rafael's portable recording kit), and Rafael Toral handled the mixing and mastering at his idyllic studio in Regada.
