The album that “closed” 2017 was “The Selva”, by the homonymous trio: Ricardo Jacinto on cello, Gonçalo Almeida on double bass, and myself on drums. The beginning of the story of our beautiful equilateral friendship can be told in a few lines (although we hope its development can fill some chapters in the narrative of contemporary improvisation in Portugal): Ricardo (who knew us both) suggested that we play a gig at the beloved Bar Irreal. That's how, on a hot August night in 2016, we played together for the first time, and it created sparks!
Since then, we have played about 60 concerts in Portugal, Spain, the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Poland and Czechia, and we just released our fourth album.
This first testimony of our art-in-trio was recorded in October 2016 by me at ScratchBuilt, and mixed by Nuno Fernandes at Lava Studio in London. The cover image is by our friend Madalena Matoso, and the photograph of the trio is by our friend Nuno Martins.
