about

disc 23 | 2019

The second album by THE SELVA was created in a residency we did at gnration, in Braga, for 5 days, in January 2018. We started the year with a series of seven concerts: Sabotage (Lisbon), Sonoscopia (Porto), Liceo Mutante (Pontevedra), Bétun (Tui), gnration (Braga), Carmo 81 (Viseu) and Centro Social de São Gregório (Caldas da Rainha).
I remember that it was cold during these days (winter had arrived two weeks before), but I have warm memories of the welcomes in the various places where we played, and of “hitting the road” with these two friends. The nights were particularly lively in Oporto (Sonoscopia was celebrating an anniversary), Pontevedra (at 4 am we were still roaming las calles), and Viseu (memorable, the post-gig gathering in an atelier in the city center).
After completing a little more than half of this series of concerts, we settled down in Braga and worked for a few days, composing, playing, recording, and offering instruction to young musicians from the Conservatory. The trio is composed of Ricardo Jacinto on cello, Gonçalo Almeida on double bass, and myself on drums.
The recording was done by us (with the indispensable support of João Coutada), mixed by Nuno Fernandes, and mastered by me. The album came out on Clean Feed in March 2019. The cover is by Rita Thomaz, with design by Travassos.
